Lights out in Minot on Monday afternoon
Thousands of Minot electrical users were without power for a time Monday afternoon after animal contact at the Souris Substation in northeast Minot caused an outage impacting various feeder lines, according to Xcel Energy.
The outage that occurred at 12:52 p.m. impacted about 12,489 customers. Of those, 5,210 saw power restored at 1:19 p.m. after an outage of about 27 minutes. The balance of the customers had power restored at 1:32 p.m., amounting to a 40-minute outage.
A large area in the community was impacted from South Broadway, north and northwest Minot as well as east of Minot.
Crews isolated the area at the substation where the animal contact was made. Possibly a squirrel, the type of animal was not definitively determined, according to Xcel Energy. Upon restoring power, crews were determining what repairs will be needed.
