Philadelphia Police Say Mother Stabbed In Front of Children on Christmas

Philadelphia police say a 35-year-old woman was fatally stabbed multiple times in an attack in front of her children that took early Wednesday morning.

The woman, who was not identified, was discovered laying outside a home in the Olney neighborhood with multiple stab wounds to her abdomen and was taken to a local hospital where she later died, WCAU-TV reported.

Another victim, identified as the victim's 14-year-old son, was also stabbed in the attack and taken to the hospital. He's currently listed in stable condition.

The suspect and victim are believed to be or once were married, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told WPVI-TV. Six children, ranging in ages from 8-16, were inside the home at the time of the attack.

The attack ended after one of the children managed to get the knife away from the suspect in order to prevent him from stabbing anyone else. Police found the knife, which has been described as a 10-inch butchers knife, on the second floor of the home.

The suspect, identified only as a 33-year-old man, suffered cuts to his hands and was treated at a local hospital before being taken to police headquarters.
