Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence To Miss Next Game After Positive COVID Test

College Football Playoff National Championship - Clemson v LSU

The Clemson Tigers will be without their star quarterback Trevor Lawrence after he tested positive for COVID-19. The school said that Lawrence is in isolation and will miss at least one game.

"Trevor has authorized us this evening to announce that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now in isolation," Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said in a statement. "He is doing well with mild symptoms but will not be available for this week's game against Boston College. While we certainly will miss Trevor, this is an opportunity for other guys to step up and we’re excited about competing against a very good BC team on Saturday.”

Lawrence shared an update on his condition on Twitter.

“I have tested positive for COVID-19 and my symptoms have been relatively mild while I’m following the protocol from Clemson and the ACC,” Lawrence wrote. “The only thing that hurts is missing an opportunity to be with my teammates this weekend and play the game I love. I hate that I can’t be there, but I’ll be watching from isolation and pulling for our guys while I wait for the opportunity to rejoin the team. God bless and Go Tigers!”

The top-ranked Tigers could also be without Lawrence, who is one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy, for their game against No. 4 Notre Dame on November 7.

Under the ACC’s COVID-19 protocol, Lawrence must "be isolated for at least 10 days from the onset of symptoms/positive test." He was tested on Wednesday, so he could potentially be cleared to play in the game against Notre Dame, though he may be held out if he continues to show symptoms.

Lawrence is also predicted to be the number one overall pick in the NFL Draft if he decides to forgo his senior season. So far this year, he is completing 70% of his passes going 135-of-191 with 1,833 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has thrown just two interceptions.
