According to recent research, around 50 per cent of respondents from a survey of close to 2,000 fans reported experiencing some form cheating during games of Monopoly.
Standard methods of deception included stealing money from the bank, inventing fake rules and moving tokens across multiple spaces – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
For example, who hasn’t encountered at least one person who was adamant that all of the money generated by fines and repairs in the game should go into the middle of the board and be collected when someone lands on free parking? It’s a made-up rule! Look it up!
Anyway, to combat this sort of nonsense once and all, Hasbro has launched the brand new Monopoly CheatBot via Facebook.
From today, players will be able to settle disputes and stop rule breaking in real-time, via the CheatBot. The real-time service will cover everything from whether someone stays in jail for one extra role of the dice or needs to pay a particular fine.
“The cheating has gone on too long! With nearly one out of every two Monopoly players bending – or breaking – the rules, we knew it was time to put an end to the cheating, and what better way to reach our fans than by leveraging the innovative Facebook Messenger technology,” said Craig Wilkins, Marketing Director, Hasbro UK & Ireland.
Craig added “With Monopoly CheatBot, we’re empowering fans to ‘report’ their family and friends for corrupt and questionable game play – with customised consequences to hopefully end Monopoly feuds for good.”
All fans need to do is head over to Facebook.com/Monopoly where they can report their friends and family to Mr. Monopoly himself using the Monopoly CheatBot. Better still, fans can join in the conversation online using the hashtag #MonopolyCheater.
So finally everyone can shut the f**k up about free f**king parking.
